Dr Hocking has a special interest in managing addiction disorders, mood disorders, and anxiety disorders. He has also developed skills in diagnosing and managing ADHD, as well as providing psychological interventions to manage chronic pain. In addition to his private practice clinic, Dr Hocking has admitting rights to the Damascus Unit at Brisbane Private Hospital, for the in-patient and follow-up care of patients suffering from addiction disorders. He also works as the Psychiatrist in the multidisciplinary pain team running the Brisbane Pain Rehabilitation Service at the Canossa Hospital – a service offering not only holistic acute management of chronic pain but also providing further management if requested.
He also is available for telehealth consultations for patients in regional areas. Please contact the clinic for more information.
While not continuing admitting rights to Private Mental Health Hospitals due to his time constraints, Dr Hocking has Psychiatrist colleagues who can arrange these admissions promptly, if necessary, coupled with smooth transitions back to his care upon discharge.
Dr Hocking aims to provide holistic care to his patients. He utilises a wide range of evidence-based psychological interventions and medications to manage specific conditions and works together with his patients to collaboratively manage their concerns. He prides himself on providing a warm, caring and compassionate environment to establish the most beneficial outcome for his patients.
The first appointment usually lasts for about 60 minutes and patients will receive feedback at the end of that session about what the problems may be, and what might be done about them. Usually, the total period of assessment runs over 2 sessions, after which a more detailed discussion about diagnosis and treatment will occur.
